Sara Magansini winnaar dirigentenwedstrijd

Sara won deze week de dirigentenwedstrijd van de England Brass Band Association. Een groots moment voor Sara. Hulde en een groot compliment. Geniet van het moment en van de ervaring van dergelijke wedstrijden.

Sara was student in Italie bij de ISEB dirigentencursus. Vervolgens ging ze naar het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Den Haag voor haar Master. Momenteel is ze werkzaam als assistent conductor in Gibraltar bij het militaire orkest aldaar.

The England Brass Band Association organised the EBBA conducting competition 2025 in Halifax Minster (West Yorkshire) on 28th June.

First selection was through video submission.

Semi-final round was live (10 conductors) conducting “Variations” by Thea Musgrave or “In Memoriam RK” by Elgar Howarth with Hammonds Brass Band (15min each to work on the assigned piece).

The 5 finalists then went on to rehearse and conduct the Elland Silver Band in the final, which was part of the Gala Concert held that evening. 

Adjudicators were Katrina Marzella-Wheeler and Eduardo Portal and gave a lot of personal feedback throughout the day, after each session. 

Sara won the 1st Prize which consisted of a plaque, 200£ and the opportunity to work with Russel Gray and Foden’s Band during the preparation for the Championship National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall in October 2025. 

I also won the prize for best UK entrant which consisted of a plaque and a free membership to the EBBA for next year. 

It was a wonderful opportunity to fulfill my lifelong learning journey!
